Golf swing improvement can be elusive for most golfers. I have read many articles and studies on the huge number of golfers quitting the game every year. They are tired of putting in the time, buying equipment, taking lessons, and purchasing every golf training aid on the market only to see no golf swing improvement.
You can’t fault a frustrated golfer who experiences the above and quits. Life is too short to spend 5 hours on a golf course and not enjoy it.
Let’s discuss why this happens!
First off, golf swing improvement should be approached from the inside-out. That means starting with your body. If your body has physical restrictions, you won’t ever be able to make a repeatable golf swing with any power or accuracy. It’s a physical impossibility.

You body dictates your golfing ability. Like in any sport, raw talent is hard to come by and is only for a small percent of the athletic community.

What a frustrating situation!
For every swing fault, there is an underlying ‘physical’ reason why it keeps happening.
Let me give you one of many examples to substantiate the above statement.
You are a slicer. That means you come “over-the-top” with your upper body. Do you want to know one of the many reasons why this happens?
Here goes!
You have poor core strength and flexibility.
If your body cannot initiate the downswing with the lower body, especially the hips rotating; it is because your core muscles are sending a message to your brain saying, “we can’t do this, so figure out another way (compensation) to get me back to the ball.”
Now the upside to this scenario.
You work on your core rotational strength and flexibility. You don’t hit more balls. You don’t add more swing thoughts to your swing. You don’t do drills at the range til your hands are bleeding. You just improve your core. That’s it!
The result?
You are able to initiate the downswing with your lower body, create and retain stored energy in your core area, and you not only stop your slice, but you add 30 yards to your drives!
That’s golf swing improvement the right way!

Choices: Lessons from Prison - A Daily Memoir - October 3rd
On a crisp October day in 1995, Chuck Gallagher took 23 physical steps… opened a door… and began a new experience that was life-changing. Don’t mistake, however, the word – consequence. Consequence doesn’t carry with it an emotional outcome of good or bad. Consequence is just the outcome. Whether it is good or bad depends on the choice made and how the recipient feels about the consequence. Let me give you an example from a perspective that looks back over some time. The day I walked through those prison doors was clearly one of the worst days of my life. I can’t begin to describe how low, unworthy, and valueless I felt as I took on my new identity. I went from being what some folks would describe as “somebody” to being what most would call a “nobody.” I was effectively the lowest of low in our society. Yet, looking back over my life since then, I found that this was one of the most valuable experiences of my life. Not only did I learn many valuable lessons that have been life changing, I’ve also found that sharing these lessons have been beneficial to others.
One of the greatest gifts we can give to others is to help then along their journey. After all we are souls having a human experience.
The following is my journal from the first day after my admission into Federal Prison. Perhaps the insight will help others. Read it and see where it takes you.
October 3, 1995.
I've been here less than 24 hours and understand and I will have time for reflection. I also now appreciate good mattress! Sleeping on a 4-inch thick plastic mattress stretched across metal bars is not very comfortable. Should I expect more? This is prison.
As a new inmate there is nothing to do. I need to concern myself with something, but what -- I have no idea. For now, I'm writing my children. My first letter from prison, and I feel sad. I know will be amazing how much they will grow during my absence. One day, and it's clear to me, that no amount of money can replace the loss that I feel right now.
It's been less than 24 hours and I have never had so much time to do what I want and the lack of freedom to do it. What I want is what I can't have.
It's 9:10 p.m. and my cellmate and I have just had an interesting conversation. It took a day or two, but Buck asked me what I was in for. Still been concerned about self-preservation, I told him I was a thief. He asked me what I stole? I said, “money.” He asked, “how much?” And a sternly as I could muster a response, I responded, “Is it really important how much?" We both seemed to understand that we were here, for reasons beyond what appeared on the surface. The amount was a relevant. What was significant was what we did with the time we were given.
As we experience life daily, know that we are all more than what we seem and that each experience that we encounter in life has a purpose and meaning. We may not know at the moment what the meaning is or what value it brings, but make no mistake meaning is there we just have to look deep to find it.

Ever hear of no risk, no reward? Well, buying riskier small cap stocks that could return triple digit gains doesn’t have to be a risky proposition. Rule Number Five: Remove emotions from your decisions with disciplined selling strategies.
So now that we’ve covered how to buy in to such stocks, let’s review selling strategies because they are just as important. With selling, always limit your downside with stop losses of 10%-15% in long positions and stop losses of 25% with options. Using this strategy eliminates much of the risk from attempting to capitalize on double digit and triple digit gains. In fact, once you become good at identifying opportunities, having winning pick percentages of 70%-85% would not be unusual. And if you attain these percentages, the 15% of picks you lose several hundred dollars in becomes irrelavant when offest by your huge gains. In reviewing what to do about gains, just abide by one rule. Don’t get greedy and always lock in gains. If you don’t get greedy, there is no way you should not make money from a stock that has experienced explosive growth. But this scenario does happen. And only one thing causes this to happen. Greed. People will watch 100% profits turn into 20% losses because of greed. Just as you did with your buy in price, have a predetermined selling price. As opposed to the buy in price range, I would choose a more specific price. For example, let’s consider stock YYY again and assume you bought the stock for $3 a share. Say you set your goal at $5 a share, a 67% increase, but that it blows right through that price two weeks later. Now what do you do? Hold on or sell? With sell strategies of rapidly rising stocks, the picture becomes slightly murkier than with sell strategies of stocks that are falling. When a stock passes through your 15% stop loss order (see part I of this article), it will sell automatically, no questions asked, with all emotions removed from that decision. But what do you do when the stock is shooting skyward with seemingly unlimited upside? It depends on what’s driving the price up. If pure speculation is the only thing driving the price, sell half your position and then put trailing stop losses of 20% on the remaining half. In other words, now that stock YYY has risen to $5 a share from my original buy-in price of $3 a share, I sell half my position, and my stop loss price on the remaining half has now moved up to $4.25 a share. This way I’ve locked in my predetermined 67% gain on half of my position of YYY and the least amount of profit I can make on the remaining half is 42%. Now if earnings and sales are driving the price up, I may take another strategy. Instead of selling half of my position in YYY, I’ll hold onto my entire position, but again institute a trailing stop loss of 20%, moving my stop loss price-point up to $4.25. This is riskier than the first strategy, but the important thing to note is that I am still locking in gains. In this scenario, I still guarantee myself a 42% gain no matter what happens with the stock from here on out. The key, and I can’t emphasize this enough, is to always take gains off the table or to lock them in with trailing stops. By doing this, you remove your emotions from your decisions. Formulate a disciplined sell strategy and you’ll make a lot more money than you would by trying to forecast the direction of the small and micro-cap stocks you invest in. Plus you’ll save a lot of money on the psychiatrist you won’t have to hire due to all the unnecessary stress you would have caused yourself by not employing these strategies.

Ethics and Consequences: Lessons from Prison – October 6th
Have you ever been caught up in the vicious cycle of wanting more? If you have ever thought that what you have is not good enough, that you want more, that you are insatiable, then this series of articles will stop you in your tracks and change your perspective. Competent, educated and in prison – I would never have considered that this is where I would be some 11 years ago. But, there are consequences to every choice we make and though one might think that we can avoid the consequences – we can’t. They are unavoidable and certain. We just don’t know how or when we will face the inevitable.
As a former CPA who, through a series of choices, became a white-collar criminal, I now take the time to review my time in prison and write about that experience so that others may gain benefit from my experience. Some of us learn lessons the hard way. Yet, through sharing the experience of my incarceration, others have stated that they’ve been able to look at their choices in a different and more productive way.
While the prison experience was painful, as the following excerpt from my memoirs shows, it provided a foundation for an incredible opportunity for growth. Likewise, through the prison experience I found numerous ways to help others.
My journal dated - October 6, 1995 reads as follows:
“8:37 a.m. -- Reading this morning brought up feelings of sadness, once again. I understand I'm here to be punished in and being away from my children and the things I hold dear is punishment.
4:00 p.m. -- its time for mail call and stand up count time. I live for this time. Being cut off from society is difficult. I hope each day that someone cares enough, to send me a letter.
9:40 p.m. -- At dinner tonight I had a revelation, I need to talk to high school children and college kids, about the effects of the choices they make. 70% or more of the people here are here for drug-related crimes. It's sad to see the educational level of most of the inmates. How can anyone expect to ever break the cycle of poverty and crime, if they don't have the education to do so? I don't know my role now, but hopefully someday I can make a difference.
”Now, some eleven years later, I find that the personal growth from the prison experience provided a foundation for help to others. The revelation to speak to high school and college students has manifested through the establishment of the Choices Foundation, which provides a forum to educate young people on the effects of the choices they make.
It’s extremely powerful to see and hear how young people react to the message of choice and consequence. All to often they don’t experience the direct consequence of the choices they make. The detriment of youth is you haven’t lived long enough to see the link between choice and outcome. Likewise, many youth, other than perhaps those extremely disadvantaged, have not connection with anyone who has been incarcerated for their actions. Therefore, being exposed, in a direct way, to someone who has made unethical choices and faced the consequences, to some is profound.
All too often we find that “ethics” and “ethical choices” dominate our media through new events of what has been done wrong. In order to change our focus, we must create an awareness of what should be done right. Competent, educated and in prison – I would never have considered that this is where I would be some 11 years ago. But, there are consequences to every choice we make and though one might think that we can avoid the consequences – we can’t. They are unavoidable and certain. We just don’t know how or when we will face the inevitable.
As a former CPA who, through a series of choices, became a white-collar criminal, I now take the time to review my time in prison and write about that experience so that others may gain benefit from my experience. Some of us learn lessons the hard way. Yet, through sharing the experience of my incarceration, others have stated that they’ve been able to look at their choices in a different and more productive way.
While the prison experience was painful, as the following excerpt from my memoirs shows, it provided a foundation for an incredible opportunity for growth. Likewise, through the prison experience I found numerous ways to help others.
My journal dated - October 6, 1995 reads as follows:
“8:37 a.m. -- Reading this morning brought up feelings of sadness, once again. I understand I'm here to be punished in and being away from my children and the things I hold dear is punishment.
4:00 p.m. -- its time for mail call and stand up count time. I live for this time. Being cut off from society is difficult. I hope each day that someone cares enough, to send me a letter.
9:40 p.m. -- At dinner tonight I had a revelation, I need to talk to high school children and college kids, about the effects of the choices they make. 70% or more of the people here are here for drug-related crimes. It's sad to see the educational level of most of the inmates. How can anyone expect to ever break the cycle of poverty and crime, if they don't have the education to do so? I don't know my role now, but hopefully someday I can make a difference.
”Now, some eleven years later, I find that the personal growth from the prison experience provided a foundation for help to others. The revelation to speak to high school and college students has manifested through the establishment of the Choices Foundation, which provides a forum to educate young people on the effects of the choices they make.
It’s extremely powerful to see and hear how young people react to the message of choice and consequence. All to often they don’t experience the direct consequence of the choices they make. The detriment of youth is you haven’t lived long enough to see the link between choice and outcome. Likewise, many youth, other than perhaps those extremely disadvantaged, have not connection with anyone who has been incarcerated for their actions. Therefore, being exposed, in a direct way, to someone who has made unethical choices and faced the consequences, to some is profound.
All too often we find that “ethics” and “ethical choices” dominate our media through new events of what has been done wrong. In order to change our focus, we must create an awareness of what should be done right.
